King Kong (2005)

Dang. This movie just blew me away. As said in my review of the 1933 King Kong, I saw this film and the original it is based on within a few days of each other. And while I tried really hard not to compare the two films then (and I’m pretty sure that I was decently successful in that), I can compare the two all I want here, because this is the remake. And I honestly think that this film is better. For starters, the film is directed by Peter Jackson, a very amazing director, and a visual mastermind. Also, the film is around twice the length of the original film, and while sometimes this could just have had filler that brought down the pacing of the film, not here. Every moment that was added was added for a reason. It brings more depth to these characters that really could have had more depth in the original film. And the moments with Kong are so much better. Of course, the CG looks more realistic due to the fact that it is more recent, but aside from that, it was just better. It sucked me in. The entire film sucked me in. In the moments where normally I would be bored, I wasn’t. Since the film is over three hours long, it is hard to be sucked in the entire time, but I was. The first hour of the film doesn’t even have the creatures in it. It is mainly the main characters on a ship going to Skull Island. And when they first saw the creature, I checked the time that had passed. It felt like twenty minutes, but it was actually seventy. That is golden filmmaking in itself. I have no idea why this film wasn’t nominated for Best Picture. It was just so amazing. And, the main actress, Naomi Watts, is amazing in the film. If you read my review of the original film, I did not like the actress them. Here, Naomi is perfect. And for the two main actors, they were amazing as well. The two are Jack Black and Adrian Brody. The thing is, I knew that Adrian was great, but I had no idea that Jack Black was so great. He is an amazing actor, which I never knew. I am not the biggest fan of his films, but here he is just amazing. Everybody here is just amazing. That’s really the only word I can use to describe this film. Amazing. It is just amazing. If you have the time and attention span to handle it, please do. It is just…amazing.
