Out of all the DJ Caruso films I’ve seen, this is probably my favorite. And out of all the Shia LaBouf films I’ve seen this is also probably my favorite. I just think that this is a pretty good film. I enjoyed it a good bit. Actually, I enjoyed it a great bit. The film’s plot is taken from Alfred Hitchcock’s classic flick Rear Window, but switched up a bit. Instead of the main character being in a wheelchair and being a stalker, the main character is a boy named Kale, who punches his teacher (but he has good reason. His father was killed in a car wreck a year before, and his teacher made a comment about his father. Honestly, I’d punch the guy out if I was in that situation, too…forget I said that) and gets put on house arrest. Then he goes all stalker. And I don’t want anyone to argue with me, just saying that he is bored and trying to pass the time-He is a creepy stalker! And I am fine with that character. But while he is stalking people, he sees a murder. But no one else does, and when he tries to catch the murderer, A-everybody thinks he’s insane, and B-he has to cross the house arrest line, and the police show up. So he knows that bad things are going down, and the only people that will help him are his best friend Ronnie and the new girl-next-door (and love interest). This kid is just making his friends do his dirty work for him. Now, so far, this may sound very unimpressed and sarcastic, and I kind of am, but not as much as I may come off. I do love this film. It starts off as a sweet calm little thriller, and then it gets kind of darker, and then it goes full-on slasher film. This film has been heavily criticized for this reason, and this is the reason why I praise it. It does what a PG-13 thriller should do. It builds up suspense, and then goes all insane in the third act. I love this movie. It is just a great movie. It is a movie that I will watch with my friends over and over again. It’s just one of those movies that you watch with friends on a Friday night. And if any of you know me and what movies I watch on Friday nights with my friends, it takes a really good movie to make my list.
8.5/10
